What is abdominoplasty ?

Abdominoplasty, also called tummy tuck, refers to the correction of abdominal imperfections with a view to ensuring a more harmonious body shape.
More specifically, this procedure flattens the abdomen by removing excess fat and skin and tightening muscles in the abdominal wall.

Feel free to submit any questions you may have! An Abdominoplasty specialist will take care of your request.

What to expect during an initial consultation with the plastic surgeon ?

As before any intervention, a consultation is necessary in order to define the stages of the surgery, to help you prepare for the intervention and to provide you with post-operative instructions.

Such consultation would allow the specialist to carry out an in-depth medical examination by considering several factors :

  • Morphological data

  • Skin characteristics

  • The abdominal muscle condition

  • The volume of fat to be removed

It would also allow him/ her to make sure that there are no contraindications to this intervention (family history of phlebitis, pulmonary embolism, pregnancy plan, etc.).

What recommendations should be followed before abdominoplasty ?

  • To stop smoking at least one month before and after surgery

  • Taking aspirin is prohibited during the 10 days preceding the surgery

  • To disinfect the skin using an antiseptic solution or soap the night and morning before surgery.

Surgery day

Usually, admission to the clinic is done the day before the surgery.

As with most surgical procedures, it is necessary to :

  • Take a shower with an antiseptic product (Betadine, for instance) before entering the operating room.

  • Be on an empty stomach because the surgery is most often performed under general anesthesia.

What are the postoperative effects of abdominoplasty ?

The postoperative period is characterized by pain reduction and faster resumption of physical and professional activities, thanks to technological advancement over the recent years.

The patient is prescribed a post-operative abdominal sheath (to be worn for two to three weeks) adapted to their morphology. The final results of the intervention can only be expected within a few months (3 to 6 months).

Adopting a healthy lifestyle helps maintain the results of an abdominoplasty.

How to prepare for the surgery ?

The plastic surgeon and the anesthetist should be consulted once or twice in order to define the patient’s expectations and needs.
It is recommended that the patient stop smoking at least one month before the surgery.

Who is this surgery meant for ?

The Brazilian butt lift intervention is meant for healthy patients who have an almost normal BMI and who have enough excess fat to have satisfactory results.
NB: this surgery may not be the best option for extremely thin or severely obese patients.

What are the stages of a Brazilian butt lift ?

The lipofilling technique implies three stages :

  • Fat removal through liposuction

  • Fat purification

  • Fat reinjection

What are the postoperative effects ?

After a Brazilian butt lift :

  • You can resume your professional activities after 3 to 7 days. (Depending on the professional context).

  • You have to sleep on your stomach for the first 3 postoperative weeks.

Thigh lift

Following excessive weight loss or bariatric surgery, many people resort to a thigh lift procedure to eliminate excess folds of skin between the thighs, regain toned skin and maintain a well-proportioned body shape.
This surgery implies the removal of excess fat from the upper legs and excess skin from the inner or outer thighs. In some cases, it is possible to combine a thigh lift with thigh liposuction in order to have better results.

Preoperative consultation

To identify your needs and expectations for this cosmetic procedure, it is necessary to consult the plastic surgeon and the anaesthetist before the surgery.
They will explain the procedure to you and tell you about the potential results in your case.

What recommendations should be followed before a thigh lift ?

To stop smoking at least one month before and after surgery
Taking aspirin, anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs is prohibited during the 15 days preceding the surgery.

Postoperative effects of a thigh lift

You can resume your professional activities 7 to 10 days after a thigh lift procedure. However, it is strictly forbidden to make great physical efforts or to return to sport until after six weeks of the procedure.
Returning to the clinic or to the surgeon to remove the stitches is not necessary, as they are dissolvable.
The surgeon’s recommendations must be respected and followed to ensure optimal results.
The ultimate result of the thigh lift can be seen after three months, while the final aspect of the scar is only observed after 12 months.

  • Stop smoking at least two months before the surgery

What is liposuction ?

Liposuction, also called lipoaspiration, is a cosmetic procedure that involves sucking out small areas of excess subcutaneous fat in order to reshape the silhouette.

Before liposuction

As before any surgery, a consultation with the plastic surgeon is needed in order to analyze the patient’s silhouette, to define the amount of subcutaneous fat and to examine the state of sagging skin and the areas that can be reshaped. Besides, this preoperative consultation helps the surgeon learn about the patient’s medical history and potential contraindications that may prevent him/ her from undergoing such an intervention.

After liposuction

  • A compression garment should be worn for 4 to 6 weeks after the surgery.

  • The final result can be seen between 3 to 6 months after the surgery.

  • It is necessary to adopt a healthy lifestyle, so that fat does not develop elsewhere in the body.

  • Normal activity can be resumed between 4 to 10 days after the intervention, while it is necessary to wait 4 to 6 weeks before resuming any physical activity.
